Bringing Zouk to Orange County in the Hudson Valley

Posted on May 23, 2024

Originating in Brazil during the early 1990s, Brazilian Zouk evolved from the partner dance known as the Lambada. Recently, the term Zouk is mostly used to refer to the Brazilian Zouk dance style. In the age of dance fusion, it is common for Zouk to be incorporated into other dance styles such as Sensual Bachata, Salsa, West Coast Swing, and Kizomba. Similarly like West Coast Swing and Hustle, Zouk can be danced to a range of musical genres such as R’n’B, Pop, Hip Hop, Kizomba and Contemporary.

Recently at Sunset Dance Studios, we have brought a fabulous instructor named Rui Tavares, who also teaches Zouk in NYC and New Jersey. We are delighted to have Zouk classes right here in Warwick, New York. Many people travel from Middletown, Newburgh, Monroe and Chester, some come from as far away as Kingston and Poughkeepsie to take advantage of having the availability of zouk locally without having to drive into NYC.

Rui Tavares was born and raised in Brazil. He has been dancing and teaching Brazilian Zouk, Bachata, Samba, Lambada and Forro for many years before moving to the United States several years ago. Rui brings his expertise not only in zouk, but in all other dance styles he teaches. With his warm and fun personality, Rui captivates his students and makes his instruction not only educational, but fun as well. He also teaches privately for the students who want to learn more and have a personalized experience.

Come and check out Rui’s classes and our Kizomba and Argentine Tango classes, which are unique to Orange County and the Hudson Valley.
